The Newsletter El Camagüeyano is a group of efforts of independent journalists from Camagüey who have taken the task of letting the Cuban people know of activities in the City.

According to one of its articles:

“When you shut the door on the word, the truth stays outside.”

El Camagüeyano serves to impede that this door, where only certain permitted things pass due to the censorship, is opened once and for all for all different opinions.

This newsletter rises without journalistic or literary pretensions, assisted by reason and guided by truth, since by just being, the truth brings implicit beauty.

It is our intention to take to our people, the other side of the information that they are denied, and which they have a right to access.

Protected by Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, approved by the United Nations on December 10, 1948 (also signed by Cuba) states: “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.” And with certainty that this newsletter does not violate the current Penal Code, Article 210 which states that “Whoever makes, distributes, or circulates publications without indicating the printing press or place of printing or without abiding by the established norms, for the identification of its author or his/her origin, or its storing and transportation, will have committed a crime and will be condemned to a prison sentence of 3 months, upto 1 year or be fined 100 – 300 fees.
