AMID INCREASED REPRESSION, EXILES LAUNCH CIVIC RESISTANCE HOTLINE

Cuban exile organizations led by former political prisoners announced during a press conference today that they will recognize all Cubans who suffer repression or arrest as a result of non-cooperation with the dictatorship or rejection of the electoral farce as targets of political persecution. They will also recognize all those imprisoned for the same reasons as political prisoners.

The conference, which took place at the headquarters of the Cuban Municipalities in Exile, also saw the announcement of an international telephone line available 24 hours a day to report non-cooperation actions that take place on the Island. People who are arrested or persecuted for developing new forms of civil resistance in the non-cooperation campaign may also be reported.

The telephone number, 1-877-303-YONO, will be available beginning this Friday, and will be staffed by the Cuban Historic Political Prisoners Association. This initiative from several pro-democracy exile organizations is a response to the increase in resistance actions on the Island such as protests by young Cubans wearing bracelets with the word CAMBIO, or change, as well as the public dissatisfaction demonstrated regarding Chinese buses recently bought by the Havana regime.

“We will take on the responsibility of documenting and publishing these actions, of directing international human rights organizations to support these victims of persecution, and to make sure that economic assistance collected among Cuban exile communities reaches those countrymen who need it due to their struggle from freedom on Cuban soil,” stated Angel de Fana, of Plantados Until Freedom and Democracy in Cuba.
